Steroid creams for eczema while pregnant

I have had this terrible skin disorder since a child and have gone through many different meds and home remedies. If your eczema is at the oozing stage soak in oatmeal baths and then follow up with neutrogena sesame seed oil and pat dry. If you are in the scaling stage try rubbing crisco on your skin and wrap plastic wrap around areas and sleep with this on. Try wearing white cotton gloves to bed for you scratch and irritate the areas in your sleep. Use cool water to bathe for hot water irritates these areas. Use a good moisturizing lotion like eucerin and also use cortisone when itching. One thing that works well is tanning regularly but don't overdue it in one session. Make sure you know your allergies and try as hard as you can to stay away from those food items or airborne items that you are allergic too. I use aveeno bath products too and stay away from the perfumed items.

There are a number of potential triggers that we can speculate over and test their effects by elimination. These include:
  Incorrect moisturizer
Run off from shampoos, hair dye and styling products (sprays etc)
  Incorrect makeup
Allergic reaction to nickel in eyelash curlers, tweezers, mobile phones
Transporting allergens (fragrance, soaps, nickel etc.) from the hands to the face from touching – and we touch our faces up to 136 times per day!

PUVA is a special treatment using a photosensitizing drug and timed artificial-light exposure composed of wavelengths of ultraviolet light in the UVA spectrum. The photosensitizing drug in PUVA is called psoralen. Both the psoralen and the UVA light must be administered within one hour of each other for a response to occur. These treatments are usually given in a physician's office two to three times per week. Several weeks of PUVA is usually required before seeing significant results. The light exposure time is gradually increased during each subsequent treatment. Psoralens may be given orally as a pill or topically as a bath or lotion. After a short incubation period, the skin is exposed to a special wavelength of ultraviolet light called UVA. Patients using PUVA are generally sun sensitive and must avoid sun exposure for a period of time after PUVA. Common side effects with PUVA include burning, aging of the skin, increased brown spots called lentigines , and an increased risk of skin cancer , including melanoma . The relative increase in skin cancer risk with PUVA treatment is controversial. PUVA treatments need to be closely monitored by a physician and discontinued when a maximum number of treatments have been reached.

Lots of unsubstantiated alternative eczema therapies are promoted in the press. Be wary of these claims.  Miraculous natural cures for eczema often contain crushed cortisone tablets.  Evening Primrose oil (or gamolenic acid), flaxseed & omega 3 oils offer no real additional benefit to eczema.   Chinese herbal tea extracts have been evaluated but taste unpleasant and may even cause liver toxicity. Recalcitrant eczema on the face may respond to non-steroidal immune-modulator preparations such as Tacrolimus (Protopic) and Pimecrolimus (Elidel) however skin redness may be a temporary side effect. Ultra-violet light therapy treatment has been helpful so get out into the sunshine! There is growing proof that lactobacillus GG probiotics (Reuterina) supplemented in pregnancy, breastfeeding and early in life may reduce eczema in babies by altering their gut immune reactivity.
