Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows Robert Downey Jr. is back as the movies' most notorious sleuth with Jude Law as Watson by his side, and this sequel is just about as over-the-top Guy Ritchie-ness as it gets. Jared Harris more than holds his own as the ruthless villain Moriarty, Holmes' intellectual equal, but the addition of Noomi Rapace as a gypsy whose brother figures into the plot seems shoehorned in. Still, if you enjoyed the first movie enough (or you'll watch Robert Downey Jr. no matter what he's in), the sequel more than adequately delivers the action, laughs and intrigue you expect from this sort of thing and Downey and Law's genuine bromance and rapid-fire banter alone make it worth watching. Extras: Maximum Movie Mode hosted by Robert Downey Jr., movie app, featurettes including "Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: A Perfect Chemistry," "Holmes Without Borders," "Moriarty’s Master Plan Unleashed," "Holmesavision on Steroids," "Sherlock Holmes: Under the Gypsy Spell," "Meet Mycroft Holmes," "Guy Ritchie's Well-Oiled Machine" (DVD/BD)

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Nic "looney tunes" Cage reprises his role as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider for directors Neveldine/Taylor (who brought us the magnificently bad Crank movies). This time, the tormented Johnny is laying low in Eastern Europe, until a biker-angel (Idris Elba) promises to help him get rid of his cursed deal with the Devil in return for protecting a young boy who happens to be the Devil's son. If you're expecting a coherent plot and cinematic substance, this ain't it. A laughably good time, well, I'll leave that to you. Extras: Deleted scenes (DVD/BD); expanded director commentary, six-part making-of documentary (BD); the 3D BD adds "Riding Into Another Dimension," about the creative aspects of adding 3D to the film.
